Requirements to generate meta description

• You must have enough credits* to generate the meta description
• Preprocessed article content should be more than 200 words. Preprocess refers to filtering specific article/category page elements. The below elements are not considered for meta description generation's word count:
  • HTML tags
  • Images
  • URL/links
  • Code blocks

  If you have an article word count shown as 220 words at the bottom of the Document360 editor, this includes the HTML tags, links, code blocks, and more. When preprocessing content is considered, the word count would be less. Ensure the preprocessed article content is more than 200 words to generate a meta description.

• You must have relevant access permissions to generate the meta description. The Generate meta description button is disabled for team accounts that do not have access to it

How to use the 'SEO description generator'?

1. Go to the desired article/category page in the Knowledge base portal
2. Click Article settings/Category settings at the top right, and a blade appears on the right
3. Expand the SEO section and click the Generate meta description button
4. The best meta description is generated based on the article/category page content
5. Click Save

How to generate meta descriptions for multiple articles/category pages?

You can generate meta descriptions for multiple articles/category pages in the same version and language.

1. Go to Content tools → Documentation → SEO description
2. Select the desired version from the project version dropdown
3. Ensure that the selected language is English
4. All the articles and category pages in the selected version and language appear

5. You can use the filter options at the top:
   1. Meta description
      • Available - Articles with meta description
      • Not available - Articles without meta description
   2. Category - Filter the articles by category or subcategory
   3. Contributor - Filter the articles by contributors
   4. Tags - Filter the articles with the tags
   5. Updated on - Filter the articles updated within a time frame or a specific range of dates
6. Hover over the desired articles/category pages, and a checkbox appears adjacent to the article/category page name
7. Select the checkbox of the desired articles and category pages
8. Click the Generate meta description button, and a confirmation prompt appears
   
9. Click Yes in the confirmation prompt

10. A summary blade appears on the right with the progress details (Wait for a few seconds)
    

11. Once the meta description is generated for the selected articles, close the blade
    
12. Click the Save button on the top right

How to purchase SEO description generator credits?

Method 1 - From the 'Billing' page in Settings

1. Go to Settings → Knowledge base portal → Billing, and My plan tab is the default selection
2. Click Purchase addon, and a Purchase addon blade appears on the right
3. Click "+" and "-" applicable for the SEO description generator to add or remove the addon units
4. Review the cost of the addons and the Amount due
5. Click Confirm Payment to proceed with the payment
6. Payment successful! message appears

Method 2 - From the SEO description overview page

1. Go to Content tools → Documentation → SEO description
2. Click buy more adjacent to the Generate meta description button, and an SEO description generator addon blade appears on the right
3. Click "+" and "-" applicable for the SEO description generator to add or remove the addon units
4. Review the cost of the addons and the Amount due
5. Click Confirm Payment to proceed with the payment
6. Payment successful! message appears

1. Go to an article/category page in the Knowledge base portal
2. Click Article settings/Category settings at the top right, and a blade appears on the right
3. Expand the SEO section and click buy more next to the Generate meta description button. An SEO description generator addon blade appears on the right
4. Click "+" and "-" applicable for the SEO description generator to add or remove the addon units
5. Review the cost of the addons and the Amount due
6. Click Confirm Payment to proceed with the payment
7. Payment successful! message appears

A meta description is the summary of an article/category page. The meta description appears as snippets in the search engine results. Adding meta descriptions will increase your SEO and thus increase organic traffic.

3. How are credits associated with the SEO description generator?

Credits are required to generate meta descriptions with the SEO description generator. One credit is consumed when you generate a meta description for an article/category page.

For example, If you want to generate the meta description for 50 articles, you need 50 credits.

4. Does Document360 offer free credits for generating meta descriptions?

Yes, we offer ten free credits for all paid projects. You cannot avail of the free credits in the Trial and Free plan.

5. Why the article word count shown in the editor varies from preprocessed word count?

The preprocessed word count excludes content elements such as HTML tags, Images, URLs/links, and Code blocks. The article word count includes all the elements in the content.

6. What happens when I generate a meta description for an article which already has a meta description?

• One credit would be consumed to generate the meta description
• The generated meta description will replace the current meta description

7. Can I generate different meta descriptions with the same article content?

No, the meta description changes only if the content is modified. Suppose you generate the meta description for the same content. In that case, the same meta description will be generated again, and one credit will be consumed.

8. Can I manually update the SEO description page's meta title and meta description?

You can manually update the meta title and meta description on the SEO description page. You can update the changes individually with the Save (✓) icon. You can use the Save button at the top to save all the updates.

9. Can I generate meta descriptions for articles in languages other than English?

Currently, we support the SEO description generator only for the English language. However, you can manually add meta descriptions for articles in other languages.

10. Does search engines crawl meta description of private articles?

No, search engines cannot crawl private articles.

11. What is the validity of the credits?

The credits are valid for the lifetime of the project.

12. Do the credits get affected by a change in the subscription plan?

No, the credits would not be affected by a subscription plan change.

13. Do you provide a refund for unused credits?

No, we don't provide a refund for unused credits.

14. Can I generate a meta title with the SEO description generator?

No, you can only generate meta descriptions with the SEO description generator.

15. What happens if I need a meta title?

If you don't add a meta title, the article/category page title will be chosen as the meta title.

16. Can I switch between languages in the SEO description module?

Yes, you can switch between languages in the SEO description module. This option lets you update the meta description for multiple articles in one place. The meta description can be generated only for the English language.
