Requirements to generate meta description

  • You must have enough credits* to generate the meta description
  • Preprocessed article content should be more than 200 words. Preprocess refers to filtering specific article/category page elements. The below elements are not considered for meta description generation's word count:
    • HTML tags
    • Images
    • URL/links
    • Code blocks

    If you have an article word count shown as 220 words at the bottom of the Document360 editor, this includes the HTML tags, links, code blocks, and more. When preprocessing content is considered, the word count would be less. Ensure the preprocessed article content is more than 200 words to generate a meta description.

  • You must have relevant access permissions to generate the meta description. The Generate SEO description button is disabled for team accounts that do not have access to it

How to use the 'SEO description generator'?

  1. Go to the desired article/category page in the Knowledge base portal
  2. Click Article settings/Category settings at the top-right, and a blade appears on the right
  3. Expand the SEO section and click the Generate SEO description button
  4. The meta description is generated based on the article/category page content
  5. Click Save

Make sure you have enough Credits* to perform this operation.


How to generate SEO descriptions for multiple articles/category pages?

You can generate meta descriptions for multiple articles/category pages in the same version and language.

  1. Go to Content toolsDocumentationSEO description
  2. Select the desired version from the project version dropdown
  3. Ensure that the selected language is English
  4. All the articles and category pages in the selected version and language appear
Preprocessed word count

The preprocessed word count appears next to the article/category page name. You can generate meta descriptions only for the articles and category pages with a preprocessed word count of more than 200.

  1. You can use the filter options at the top:

    1. SEO description
      • Available - Articles with meta description
      • Not available - Articles without meta description
    2. Category - Filter the articles by category or subcategory
    3. Contributor - Filter the articles by contributors
    4. Tags - Filter the articles with the tags
    5. Date - Filter the articles updated within a time frame or a specific range of dates
  2. Select the checkbox of the desired articles and category pages

  3. Click the Generate SEO description button, and a confirmation prompt appears

  4. Click Yes in the confirmation prompt

You must select articles with a preprocessed word count of 200 or more. The select checkbox to the left is turned off for these articles. You can view the individual word count adjacent to each article's title on the "SEO description overview" page.

You can also navigate to other modules during this process.

  1. Once the SEO description is generated for the selected articles, two option icons appear on the right side of the newly generated SEO descriptions

    • Cancel
    • Save
  2. You can also make some edits of your own and click on the Save icon

The generated SEO description is updated in the article.
