Related articles

Prev Next

Related articles are links to other articles in your knowledge base that appear at the bottom of an article on the knowledge base site. They are selected by the article author and help readers navigate to content that is relevant to what they have just read.

NOTE

Only published articles can be added as related articles. Related articles appear on the knowledge base site only. They do not appear in the knowledge base widget.

When to use related articles

  • Add related articles to guide readers to the next logical step after completing an article, for example, linking a "Getting started" article to a "Configuration" article.
  • Use related articles to surface prerequisite content readers may have missed.
  • Use Eddy AI recommendations to quickly populate related articles for new or recently updated content without manually searching.

Add related articles

There are two ways to add related articles: manually by searching your knowledge base, or automatically using Eddy AI recommendations.

Related articles tab in the Article settings panel showing search and Eddy AI options

Manually

  1. Navigate to Documentation () in the left navigation bar.
  2. Open the article.
  3. Click the More () icon in the article header and select Related articles. The Article settings panel appears on the Related articles tab.
  4. Enter a keyword in the search bar to find articles.
  5. Click the Add (+) icon next to the article you want to add. The article appears under Added articles.
  6. To remove an article from the list, click the Remove (x) icon next to it.
  7. Click Save.

You can also add related articles during the publish flow. Click Publish, expand the Configure article settings section in the confirmation prompt, scroll to Related articles, and click Yes to save and publish.

Using Eddy AI

Eddy AI analyses your article content and suggests relevant articles from your knowledge base automatically.

NOTE

The article must have at least 50 words for the Eddy AI recommender to be available.

  1. Open the Related articles tab in the Article settings panel.
  2. Click Ask Eddy AI below the search bar. Suggested articles appear under Suggested articles from Eddy AI.
  3. Click the Add (+) icon next to any article you want to include.
  4. Click Save.

NOTE

If an article has replicated versions, those versions will not appear in the Eddy AI suggestions when you are viewing one of them. When viewing a different article related to the original, only one version from the set will be suggested. The original article is shown only if you have access to it.

Auto relate

The Auto relate this article to all related articles toggle in the Article settings panel automatically creates a two-way link between the active article and all its related articles. When enabled, the active article appears in the related articles section of every article it is linked to.

Best practices

  • Limit related articles to three to five per article. Too many links reduce the value of each recommendation.
  • Link to articles that are directly relevant to the reader's next action, not just broadly related topics.
  • Use the Auto relate toggle when adding related articles to ensure the relationship is visible from both articles, not just one.
  • Review related article links when restructuring your knowledge base. Moved or deleted articles may leave broken references in the related articles list.

FAQ

What is the difference between related articles and internal links?

Internal links are hyperlinks embedded within the article content that direct readers to other articles mid-read. Related articles are a dedicated section at the bottom of the article that surfaces recommended follow-up reading. Both can link to the same articles, but they serve different navigation purposes.

Can I add an unpublished article as a related article?

No. Only published articles can be added as related articles. Unpublished or draft articles will not appear in the search results within the Related articles panel.

If a reader does not have access to a related article, will it still appear in the list?

No. Related articles that the reader does not have access to are automatically hidden from the related articles section on the knowledge base site. Only accessible articles are displayed.

Do related articles appear in the knowledge base widget?

No. Related articles appear on the knowledge base site only. They are not displayed in the knowledge base widget.

Does the Auto relate toggle apply retroactively to previously added related articles?

No. The Auto relate toggle applies from the point it is enabled. It does not retroactively create two-way links for articles that were already in the related articles list before the toggle was turned on.
